Guitarist Tomori Kudo has also worked on the music for the Xenoblade Chronicles games as part of his ACE group.Much of the music performers later returned for Mario Kart 8 and Super Mario Odyssey. All three tracks are different variations of the same melody. The "Athletic" theme, meanwhile, remains as an entirely separate track. The 3D World soundtrack combines both of these variants into one track. The "Seaside" level themes have two variants (above-water and underwater), and thus the game contains two separate tracks for each one. He worked on the music for the "Seaside and Athletic courses." This most likely implies the "Sunshine Seaside" and "Chainlink Charge" tracks given their Japanese names.
Series' sound veteran Koji Kondo composed three soundtracks in this game.He would later work on Mario Kart 8 and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
